Google Merchant Center reports Product page unavailable when Google cannot open the landing page you submitted in a product's link (or mobile link) attribute. The products stop showing in ads and free listings until Google can access the page (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Product page unavailable). Find the crawl error for the affected products, make the page load for Google, or correct the link in your feed, then request a website check.

Crawl errors behind the issue

As of October 2026, Google lists these crawl errors (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Product page unavailable):

Crawl error What to do
Page not found (404) The page doesn't exist on the server. Submit a working URL.
Too many redirects The page redirects more than twice. Keep it to two redirects or fewer.
Couldn't connect / HTTP 5xx The server failed to process the request. Keep the site consistently available.
robots.txt unreachable Google couldn't reach your robots.txt file to check the page.
Hostname not resolvable Google couldn't resolve the hostname. Check your DNS configuration.
URL protocol The URL must start with http:// or https://, use your verified domain, and URL-encode special symbols (a comma becomes %2C).

Unavailable mobile landing page is the same problem when Google crawls the page with a mobile user agent. Affected products are disabled in Shopping ads and free listings on both desktop and mobile until Google can reach the page (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Unavailable mobile landing page).

Google's link attribute rules (Google Merchant Center Help, Link [link]):

  • Start with http or https, use ASCII characters only, comply with RFC 3986, and be 1–2,000 characters long.
  • Replace symbols and spaces with URL-encoded entities.
  • Use your verified domain, and keep every redirect on that same verified domain.
  • Don't make shoppers sign in or register to see the product, and land them on the final page immediately after the click.
  • For a product with variants, the URL should open with that variant selected.

A relative path such as /products/polo is not a valid link. Feeds built from store exports sometimes contain relative paths or the store's internal URL instead of the public one.

How to fix it

  1. Find the error. Test the URL with Google's URL Inspection Tool in Search Console, choosing desktop or smartphone as the fetch type (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Product page unavailable).
  2. Fix the page or the link. Make the page load from any device, location or browser. If the site works and the submitted link is wrong, update the link: for a few products in Products > Needs attention > Edit product, or for many by downloading the .csv list of affected products, correcting the link and mobile link values in your product data, and uploading it again (same source).
  3. Request a website check. From the product's Product details tab, or from Needs attention via View fix, select Request website check. Google may take up to 12 hours to review your site, and you can't submit another request in that time. Without a request, Google reviews the site automatically later (same source).

Google says errors typically clear within a couple of days, after which the products return to ads and free listings (same source).

If your source sends relative paths or an internal hostname, a prepend or replace transformation rule on the link mapping rewrites every product URL on each sync, so you don't fix products one by one in Merchant Center. The free feed checker flags products whose link is missing or is not a full http(s) URL before you upload; it cannot see whether the live page loads, which only Google's crawl reveals.

Frequently asked questions

How many redirects does Google allow for a product page?

Two at most. Google lists "too many redirects" as a crawl error when the page redirects more than twice.

How long does it take for products to come back after I fix the page?

Google says errors typically clear within a couple of days. Requesting a website check can speed this up; Google may take up to 12 hours to review.

Do I need a verified website to request a website check?

Yes. Google's mobile landing page help says a verified and claimed website is required to request a website check.
