Why Google Merchant Center flags mismatched product prices, the causes Google lists, tax and currency traps such as WooCommerce tax display, and fixes.

A Google Merchant Center price mismatch means the price in your product data is not the price Google finds on the product's landing page or in its structured data. Google says the prices in the page HTML "need to match exactly" the prices uploaded to Merchant Center, and mismatched products may be disapproved (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price). Fix the price at the source, then keep the feed updated as often as your prices change.

Why prices don't match

As of October 2026, Google lists these causes (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price):

Cause What happens
Update timing Prices changed on the website, but the feed was not updated yet.
Incorrect structured data The page's product markup states a different price from the one shown.
Bots see a different price Crawlers get a different price or currency from the one shoppers see. Google also warns that prices loaded with JavaScript can trigger the error.
Sale dates and time zones A wrong sale_price_effective_date start or time zone makes the sale price apply at the wrong time.
Minimum quantities The page sells a minimum quantity, so the feed must carry the total price for that quantity.

Google also notes the data may have been updated and re-approved since the issue was raised, so check the product's current status first (same source).

Tax and currency: the quiet causes

Tax. Google's rules depend on the country you sell to. For the US and Canada, don't include taxes such as sales tax, GST or VAT in price; for countries such as Australia, Germany, Japan and the UK, include VAT or GST in price and make sure the landing page price matches (Google Merchant Center Help, Price [price]). A feed built on the wrong side of that rule disagrees with the page on every product.

Currency. Submit the price in the official currency of the target country, both in your product data and on your website, and let customers pay in the currency your product data uses. If a page shows several currencies, the product data currency must be the default and prominently listed (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Inconsistent currency between your product data and your website). When this goes wrong across many products, Google can warn or suspend the account under Inconsistent currency between your product data and your website (same source).

WooCommerce: check the tax display settings

WooCommerce has three settings that decide which price a shopper sees: Prices entered with tax, Display prices in the shop and Display prices during cart and checkout (WooCommerce Docs, Setting up taxes in WooCommerce). If your feed plugin exports the price as entered (for example without tax) while the shop displays prices including tax, every product page shows a different number from the feed.

Decide which price Google needs for your target country (without tax for the US and Canada, with VAT or GST in most other countries, per the rules above), then make the shop display and the feed use that same price. WooCommerce warns when the three settings conflict and offers Use recommended settings to align them (same source).

How to fix mismatched prices

  1. Correct the price. In Merchant Center, open Products > Needs attention, filter to the affected products and edit them one by one, or download the affected list as a .csv, compare it with your website and upload corrected data. Use the currency for your target country (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price).
  2. Check the markup. Test the landing page's structured data with Google's Rich Results Test (same source). In product markup, price is required and priceCurrency takes a three-letter ISO 4217 code (Google Search Central, Product snippet structured data).
  3. Request a review. Request a website check to speed up re-approval. Google re-crawls disapproved products over the next few hours or days, may take up to 12 hours to review your website, and you can't submit another request during that time (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price).

Keep prices fresh

Google points to two ways to keep Merchant Center prices current automatically: scheduled file uploads and the Merchant API (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price). Automatic item updates can also correct price, sale price, availability and condition from your landing pages; they are enabled by default, but Google says they are not a replacement for regular product data updates (Google Merchant Center Help, Allow Merchant Center to update product information automatically).

With Product Feed Master, the Google feed is a hosted file that Merchant Center fetches on a schedule (how to create a Google Merchant Center feed URL). Set the store import and the Google export on a sync schedule that matches how often your prices change, with the import running shortly before the export. Google warns that price mismatches may lead to account suspension, so recurring mismatches are worth fixing at the process level (Google Merchant Center Help, How to fix: Mismatched product price).

Frequently asked questions

Does a price mismatch suspend my Merchant Center account?

It can. Google's mismatched price page says this may lead to an account suspension, and currency inconsistencies can bring warnings or suspension at account level.

Should the feed price include tax?

It depends on the country. For the US and Canada, leave taxes out of price; for countries such as Australia, Germany, Japan and the UK, include VAT or GST.

Can automatic item updates fix price mismatches for me?

They can update prices from your landing pages, but Google says they don't replace regular feed updates and a product may be disapproved instead of updated when a mismatch is detected.
